Austin Oyster Urban Adventure May 15, 2011 View URL

Image
Oysterracingseries.com It’s an urban adventure race with the same idea as a wilderness eco challenge/Amazing Race, but set in a city and is conducted in one day. First, the race is a secret - hence the “adventure” part of the name. Two mandatory disciplines are utilized during the race: running and biking. There are additional disciplines that each team may come across in the race. Those disciplines could include: creeking & rafting, urban trekking, climbing, scootering/skating, navigation, using public transportation, and some surprises. Surprises in the past have included riding a roller coaster, eating a bug, pouring the perfect pint, and swimming in an exhibit at the Aquarium. Technically, swimming is not a listed discipline but we do reserve the right to get racers wet. We will provide all additional gear (just grab your running shoes and bikes!).

South Padre Island Sand Crab 5K and 10K Apr 30, 2011 View URL

Image
The Sand Crab, run entirely on sand, is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars on a beautiful South Padre Island Beach at night, get fed, have a few beers while listening to great music with other runners on a summer night. This 5K run is very walker friendly with a 2hr cut off. The 10K is walkable but will share the 2 hr cut off. 10K runners must be at the 3.1 mile turnaround within 1 hour. The Sand Crab will start in front of La Copa Inn Resort Hotel on the beach and run east for 3.1 or 1.55 miles (depending on the event) and turnaround at flashing yellow lights manned by a Fit to Run course marshal and head back to the finish. The course will be lit with glow sticks and LED tiki torches. LED Tikis stay lit in any wind but they do not light the beach for you to see. They only let you know where the course is. Runners are required to run with a flashlight or head lamp in order to see. Without them you will not be able to see sand castle holes and other hazards. Make sure you have ample lighting in order to run a pitch dark beach at night. There will be 2 watertops with HEB Quench and water hit 2X ea for the 10K and 1 hit 2X for the 5K. After finishing, runners will receive bbq with all the fixins and cold cerveza for those of age. Extra BBQ plates available for $10 (this is a good deal).

The "Bigfoot" Wallace Mile Cla Mar 10, 2011 View URL

In honor of the Big Foot Wallace, the damnedest bastard that Texan that has ever loved, I bring you the William Alexander Anderson "Big Foot" Wallace Mile Classic.

So here's the deal: At the turn of dusk there will be three 1 mile showdowns (March 10, March 24, & March 31) on hallowed ground where Big Foot laid his big foot.

The first go around, we get square with our Texas brethren and pay
respects to ole Big Foot at his grave.  A ceremonial one mile rebel
rousing jaunt around the Texas State Cemetery will surely do the
trick. Post tussle we rally at Rogue and drink till the stars shine
through.
