Notwithstanding environmentalist and glaciologists of sub-continent's vociferous protests, Indian Army launched a military/civilian mountaineering and trekking expedition to the Siachen Glacier. Nonetheless, the worst part of this mountaineering started is when US Army Chief General George Casey joined this campaign of melting of the glacier.

Melting of Siachen or any other glacier is not a regional issue as it causes sea level rise. Sea level rise has the fundamental case of triggering cyclone and hurricanes, the greatest threat two-third of civilization living along costal areas of globe. After the Recent devastating hurricanes in Atlantic Ocean that hit USA, Mexico, Haiti etc, scientist categorically urged their governments to check the glaciers melt henceforth.

Here it is worth mentiong that according IPCC report, Sea-level has risen about 130 meters (400 ft) since the peak of the last ice age about 18,000 years ago. Most of the rise occurred before 6,000 years ago. From 3,000 years ago to the start of the 19th century sea level was almost constant, rising at 0.1 to 0.2 mm/yr, Since 1993 studies indicates a rate of rise of 3.1 ± 0.7 mm yr–1. According to Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change of Untied Nation (IPCC) Report Sea-level rise estimates from satellite altimetry since 1992 (about 2.8 mm/yr) exceed those from tide gauges.
